Vladimir Shubin

Was born in 1980 in Leningrad. In 1997 he entered the St. Petersburg Musical College named after. Rimsky-Korsakov (specialization – double bass), in 2000 – at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, class of Associate Professor R. A. Yakovlev. In 2009 he graduated from the graduate school of the Conservatory.

In 1999-2002. Vladimir Shubin is an artist of the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra. Since 2005 – artist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Capella of St. Petersburg, since 2008 – accompanist of the double bass group.

In 2007, Vladimir Shubin was awarded the 1st prize in the double bass specialty at the XI Togliatti International Competition of Musical Performers on String Instruments. He took part in master classes of such prominent representatives of the world contrabass schools as Klaus Trumpf, Renat Ibragimov, Thomas Martin, Lev Rakov, Sergey Akopov.

During his work in the Capella, Vladimir Shubin performed most of the orchestra’s repertoire. Among the most significant works of the artist are solo parts in the works of Bruckner, Prokofiev, Slonimsky. As a member of the Capella Symphony Orchestra he has toured to Germany, Holland, Spain, China and other countries. Has appeared on the stages of the Concertgebouw, Konzerthaus (Berlin), the Beijing National Center for the Performing Arts, etc.

The musician is actively involved in solo concerts as a chamber performer. As a soloist he performs with symphony orchestras in Russia and abroad. He performed with the leading orchestras of St. Petersburg: with the Klassika orchestra he performed a concert for double bass by Koussevitsky, with the Capella orchestra – Elegy and a concert duet for clarinet and double bass, and with the Chamber Orchestra. Mikhail Estrin – Bottezini’s duet for violin and double bass. The artist’s repertoire includes works by domestic and foreign authors of various eras and styles – both compositions written specifically for the double bass and transcriptions for violin, cello and other instruments. As a guest accompanist of the double bass group, Vladimir Shubin has been participating in the work of the Samara Opera and Ballet Theater for many years.

Since 2006 Vladimir Shubin has been teaching at the Children’s Music School No. 4. Many of his students study at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
