Julia Shekmar

She was born in 1993 in the village of Unyugan (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra). Since 2001 she studied at the music school, piano. In 2008 she entered the 9th grade of the Center for the Arts for Gifted Children of the North in Khanty-Mansiysk (specialty “bassoon”). Participant of the summer creative school to improve professional skills “Peace through culture”, as well as the internship “Valery Gergiev represents young musicians of Ugra” (October 2012) within the framework of the project “Year of the Mariinsky Theater in Ugra”. In 2013 she became a laureate of the 2nd degree of the VIII All-Russian competition of performers on wind and percussion instruments “Ural Fanfare”.

After graduating from college, she entered the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. Rimsky-Korsakov to the class of Honored Artist of Russia, Professor K. B. Sokolov. Participant of the project of the St. Petersburg House of Music “The River of Talents – 2013”.

Since 2015, Julia Shekmar has been an artist of the St. Petersburg Capella Symphony Orchestra in the bassoon group. Within the framework of the Capella’s project “International Orchestral Institute” she studied with Professor Matthias Bayer, took part in master classes by Rodion Tolmachev, Valery Popov, Stefan Kanutti, Christian Kuhnert, Gregor Witt. Participant of projects of the Gart Foundation.

In 2017, she became a laureate of the 2nd degree at the VI Stockholm International Music Competition, in 2018 – a laureate of the X International Competition of the Moscow Conservatory for wind and percussion instruments in the specialty “woodwind quintet” (II prize).
